Dry Needling

IMG_0827.jpeg

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique used to treat pain and movement impairments. During a dry needling session, thin acupuncture needles are inserted into specific trigger points in muscles, tendons, or ligaments. These trigger points are areas of hyperirritability within the soft tissues that can contribute to pain and dysfunction. By inserting needles into these points, dry needling aims to stimulate the nervous system to help relieve pain, improve blood flow, and promote healing.

One of the key benefits of dry needling is its ability to target specific areas of tension or pain within the body. Unlike traditional massage or stretching techniques, dry needling can pinpoint trigger points with a high level of precision, allowing for more targeted and effective treatment. This can lead to faster relief of pain and muscle tightness, as well as improved range of motion and overall function.

Another benefit of dry needling is its potential to create a local twitch response in the muscles being treated. This involuntary twitching or contracting of the muscle fibers can help release tension and improve blood flow to the area, promoting healing and reducing pain. Additionally, dry needling is a non-invasive procedure that is generally well-tolerated by patients and can be integrated into a comprehensive sports therapy treatment and used for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.
